After Fasting

After fasting for three days, on the fourth morning, I started out with lemon water and then I broke my fast with a Gravenstein apple and Four Sigmatic Elixir Mix with chaga. I ate maybe half the apple and couldn’t finish the tea either. I did have some oatmeal an hour and a half later and it was pretty good, but I’m not food obsessed right now. I even did some food shopping and skipped the Hu chocolate. Renaissance Man said, “Who are you?”

I think the most important aspect that helps with fasting is sheer will power. You have to wrap your mind around it and then commit. While fasting, thinking about the benefits helps. Meditating helps with lowering the heart rate and keeping calm. Easy yoga poses help get the mind at ease and get the circulation going.

One of the benefits to fasting is the weight loss. I lost four pounds the first day, two pounds the second day, and then one more the third day. That’s what some of you really wanted to know, didn’t you?

One thing I thought was interesting in my research is that the body uses different forms of energy. There are multiple energy sources within.

This fast turned out to be better than the last. The third day I warmed up some water and added cayenne pepper and lemon. Having the cayenne really helps with the sluggishness and just overall well-being. And it boosted my circulation. So I will use this recipe even when not fasting.

Lemon Cayenne Water
2 cups warm water
1 lemon, juiced
1/4 cayenne pepper, dried

Most of the time, I fill up a mug with room temperature filtered water and squeeze in one organic lemon.

I hope you try fasting for at least one day a year. I can’t say you’ll love fasting, but the feeling after is awesome. It’s like you paid for an expensive cleanse, but you didn’t. I would suggest fasting in the warmer months when I think it’s easier. I do have to say my energy level seems a little low today.

I’d like to think my fasting protest helped as the FDA said no to Biden about the booster shot for those under 65 or they recommend the jab for those 65 and older or with an underlying conditions. That’s what Renaissance Man said. I don’t want to look at the news. At least that’s a step in the right direction.

Here is my journey if you’d like to read about the why and how I fasted, the benefits, and tips—

Day 0, Day 1, Day 2, Day 3.

Fasting Day 3

It’s Day 3 of fasting and I’m doing pretty good. Hey, I have enough mental faculties to write a blog post. I look forward to the benefits of feeling fantastic inside and out which will be tomorrow the end of my fast.

Day 3 for me is the most difficult. It’s usually a sluggish day. One can fast at work, just know thyself. My second grade teacher did it. She put lemon and cayenne pepper in her water.

The benefits of water, lemon, and cayenne are metabolic health, steady weight, and protection against disease. Supposedly, you can drink this even on days you’re not fasting. My circulation is poor right now even after my walk, meditation, and yoga. My feet are cold. Cayenne is supposed to help with circulation. (So today, I made warm lemon, cayenne water and it helped my circulation.)

As I’ve mentioned before lemons are antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting. Lemons have vitamin C, bioflavonoids, pectin, magnesium, and limonene, which promotes immunity and fight infection. Lemon juice kills certain types of bacteria that cause acne. Lemons help with the development of strong teeth, gums, bones, and cartilage. Drinking warm or room temperature lemon water first thing in the morning helps to alkalize the body and clean out toxins in the digestive system. This is according to author Mimi Kirk in her book The Ultimate Book of Modern Juicing.

One caveat, if you’re only going to do a water fast it’s not recommended for someone on medications. Perhaps you would have to do intermittent fasting and drink lemon, cayenne water in between meals. Not everyone can handle the spice. Ask an alternative doctor for help and preferably someone who has fasted before. Or you can always do a raw juice fast preferably with greens like spinach, kale, and cucumbers. There’s always celery juice. Actually, two caveats or three, Ray Kent, who fasted on and off for 50 years said fasting isn’t recommended for adults with brain tumors and adrenal fatigue. He recommends they are under careful supervision if they want to fast.

Benefits of fasting:

• spiritual

• the body heals itself—that’s what Hippocrates believed

• clear skin

• normalizes insulin sensitivity

• reduces inflammation

• boosts immune system

• good for gut health

• anti-aging

Fasting Tips:

• sip the water don’t chug it or you’ll feel horrible

• keep simple essential oils for smelling like wild orange to revive yourself

• if you can’t do just water add a lemon to your glass then add cayenne if it sounds yummy

• bathe and wash your hair to feel revived and to wash off the toxins

• have fruit available that has a long shelf life that way you can end your fast with whole food

The Book of Isaiah has a whole chapter on fasting. “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? (NIV Study Bible, Isaiah 58:6,7)
